About

The AI Political Archive is a partnership between the Center on Technology Policy (CTP), the NYU Center for Social Media and Politics (CSMaP), and the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC).

This project aims to document the use of generative AI in political campaign communications during 2024 U.S. elections, with a focus on multimedia content and down ballot races that receive less media attention. Our goal is to provide a unique dataset for journalists, academics, policymakers, political consultants to better study, track, and assess the use of generative AI in political communication.

  • We’ve created an online reporting tool where both the general public and our political consultant partners can submit examples of generative AI that they have created or observed in campaign content. To submit content, use the button below to go to our Submissions page.

  • Submissions are reviewed by our team before being added to the archive to ensure that they are legitimate and that the use of generative AI is reasonably suspected, disclosed by the poster, or labeled by an external source.

  • We are currently still collecting data for the archive. Once it goes live, it’ll be linked on our home page. Until then, please feel free to send examples of AI political communications through our Submissions page.

Our team tags submissions along a variety of characteristics, making the public archive easily searchable and usable for anyone. You can filter both the Gallery and Grid views by region, media type, disclosure type, and more.

How it works

People submit examples of political communications — including political ads, social media posts, and other content.

The research team will validate the submission and code it for relevant categories like the type of GenAI used and the level of the ballot.

The public archive can be used by academics, journalists, political consultants, and policymakers to understand the use of GenAI elections.
